About this resource

Invite students who are already engaged with an inquiry to create a "vlog" to explain their inquiry process with their classmates. In order to get started, show some model short YouTuber videos and discuss "noticings" about how they are made:

Ballinger Family: What is a solar eclipse? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbnF94CHqU0

John Green: What should we keep? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6v-uNFF7dw

(Note: Students may have their own YouTuber favorites, but previewing videos to share with the entire class in advance is strongly encouraged.)

Once students have a list of "noticings" of how these videos are made, they are ready to create their own video explaining to their peers and classmates their inquiry project. It is up to them how they choose to communicate their thinking and process - whether they want to include visuals, have a dialogue with another classmate, or just address the camera head on, and it is also up to them if they want background music or nothing.

What students will do

Students will be able to communicate about the inquiry process. Their communication will show that inquiry is ongoing and that the process of finding and connecting new information takes time and creativity.

Resources Needed

A/V to show model videos, iPads or Chromebooks with camera/video function.
