About this resource

Students are given a question with no data or information attached to it and asked to generate ideas to answer the problem. Students may be given a prompt, such as: 

Estimate the number of veterinary clinics in the San Francisco Bay area.

Another example is:

Given the following numbers - 2, 3, 5, 10, 24 - use all five numbers and any mathematical operation to make the number 120. Create as many possible solutions as possible.

Modifications for all Learners: Open-ended problems allow for creativity and critical thinking for all learners. Provide assistive technology as needed.
